Is Buying Medical Grade Skincare Expensive?

It is perceived that medical-grade skincare is more expensive than cosmetic or high-street skincare. However is that true? The bottom line for any purchase we make is  ‘value for money’,  so how does the skincare bought online or on the high-street  (cosmetic skincare) compare to medical-grade skincare? Here are my thoughts and why I no longer buy cosmetic skincare.

Medical grade skincare products are scientific formulations prepared using the most advanced technology. This ensures that the product is highly stable and in a form that maintains its therapeutic activity.  They are usually approved and supported by professional experts such as dermatologists because they have been validated by science, evidence and many years of research and not just a consumer survey.

They also contain a higher concentration of active skincare ingredients than cosmetic brands. This makes them more effective, producing results more quickly. You only need to apply a small amount of product for a defined period so you get more bang for your buck! It is because of this that medical-grade skincare is not marketed or sold in the same way as cosmetic skincare, as there is a potential for harm if used incorrectly. You can only buy these products in a professional clinic after a medical consultation with an appropriately trained professional.

Also, when you buy a medical-grade skincare product you are not only paying for the product but also for the expertise and the commitment that comes with it. If a skincare product you choose is not right for your skin or if the right product is not used in the right manner then you are highly unlikely to get the right results as well.  This is what makes the most difference in my opinion compared to picking a product off the shelf or online or buying one based on the recommendation of counter staff, who you may never see again.  When you buy from a professional clinic you continue to receive support and help throughout your skincare journey. Your regimen can be tailored depending on your response to treatment, a vital part of any skincare journey.
