Anti-Wrinkle Injections

What are anti-Wrinkle Injections at Skin Essential Clinic?

Anti-wrinkle injections are a sophisticated, non-surgical treatment designed to temporarily relax the facial muscles responsible for dynamic lines. By precisely targeting these muscles, the treatment softens the appearance of existing wrinkles and acts as a preventative measure against the formation of deeper set creases. At Skin Essential Clinic, our goal is to achieve a refreshed, natural-looking aesthetic that respects the unique expressive character of your face while providing a smoother, more youthful complexion.

How Anti-wrinkle Injections Work

The treatment involves the administration of a purified protein via fine-gauge needles into specific muscle groups. This protein temporarily intercepts the chemical signals that trigger muscle contraction, allowing the overlying skin to remain smooth and undisturbed. The procedure is clinical and efficient, typically performed in a short session following a comprehensive clinical assessment. Results typically begin to manifest within a few days, with the full softening effect visible after approximately two weeks.

Upper Face: Frown, Forehead, and Crows Feet

Addressing the upper third of the face is one of the most common applications of anti-wrinkle injections at Skin Essential Clinic. This treatment focuses on the horizontal forehead lines, the vertical "frown" lines between the brows, and the fine "crows feet" radiating from the corners of the eyes. By subtly reducing muscle activity in these areas, we can help to alleviate a tired or stern appearance, resulting in a more rested and "open" look that may last up to four months.

Perioral Refinement: Lip Lines & Downwards Smile

For the lower face, anti-wrinkle injections can be used with high precision to address concerns around the mouth. Treating "lip lines" (often referred to as smoker's lines) helps to smooth the vertical creases above the upper lip, while targeting the muscles responsible for a "downwards smile" can subtly lift the corners of the mouth. These advanced techniques at Skin Essential Clinic are designed to help restore a more neutral, pleasant resting expression and refine the overall contour of the perioral area.

Jawline Slimming & Masseter Reduction

Jawline slimming is a specialised clinical application that targets the masseter muscles, which are primarily responsible for chewing. In individuals with overactive masseters, the jawline can appear square or bulky; by relaxing these muscles, we can achieve a more tapered, heart-shaped facial profile. This treatment is also utilised at Skin Essential Clinic to help manage the discomfort associated with teeth grinding (bruxism), providing both aesthetic and functional benefits.

Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)

Beyond aesthetic refinement, anti-wrinkle injections are an effective clinical solution for excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis. When injected into the affected area—most commonly the underarms—the treatment temporarily blocks the nerve signals that stimulate the sweat glands. This procedure is designed to significantly reduce moisture production, offering patients at Skin Essential Clinic a boost in confidence and a practical solution for a concern that often impacts daily lifestyle and clothing choices.

Practitioner & Safety Note

All anti-wrinkle treatments at Skin Essential Clinic are subject to a face-to-face consultation with a qualified prescriber. As a prescription-only medicine, this step is mandatory to ensure patient safety and suitability. Every clinical procedure carries potential risks, and results will vary between individuals.

  • Anti-wrinkle treatments use a prescription only medicine. It should only be used after a medical consultation has taken place, which can be conducted by our medically trained aesthetic pharmacist.

There are several products available in the market and the choice  depends on your budget and the desired outcome of the final treatment. All our products are sourced from UK licensed pharmaceutical wholesalers to ensure that they are genuine products and of the highest quality.

  • Anti-wrinkle treatments should not be used:
    • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
    • If you have a condition called Myasthenia Gravis
    • If you have any neurological conditions.
    • If you have had a previous allergic reaction to botulinum toxin treatment

If you have an ongoing infection, breakout of acne or cold sores then it is best to reschedule treatment for when you are better.

If you are on certain medications such as blood thinning medication such as aspirin, warfarin or steroids or Roaccutane then is best to seek medical advice from your doctor before planning such treatments.

    • Maintain an upright position for at least 4 hours following the procedure.

    • Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and steam rooms for 24 to 48 hours.

    • Do not massage or apply significant pressure to the treated areas for the first 24 hours.

    • Refrain from consuming alcohol or taking blood-thinning medication (unless prescribed) immediately after treatment to reduce bruising risks.

  • Sometimes the result may not always be what you desired or set out to achieve.

Poor or undesirable cosmetic results such as inadequate effect, asymmetrical features, heavy brows and eyelids, dry eyes and double vision can sometimes be corrected by topping up the dose and/or using certain eye drops. However, in some cases, correction is not always possible and the best advice in such cases is to wait until the effect of the treatment wears off.

If this is your first treatment, it is always advisable to consider staring with smaller doses with a top-up option, where necessary, during the 2-week follow-up. This also allows your practitioner to get to know your face better and tailor treatment according to previous results.

    • Is the treatment painful? Most patients report only minor discomfort, often described as a short, pinching sensation. No anaesthetic is typically required, though the needles used are extremely fine.

    • When will I see results? Initial softening may be seen within 3 to 5 days, with the final clinical result typically peaking at the 14-day mark.

    • How long do the effects last? Results are temporary, typically lasting between 3 to 4 months, though this varies based on individual metabolism and muscle strength.

    • Are there any side effects? Potential side effects include minor bruising, swelling, or a temporary headache. More significant risks will be discussed during your face-to-face consultation.
