What is Mole Screening & Cosmetic Lesion Removal at Skin Essential Clinic?
At Skin Essential Clinic, we provide a professional, integrated clinical service for the assessment and removal of benign skin imperfections. Central to our safety protocol is the Map My Mole diagnostic service. This service is designed for early detection of skin cancer and an expert dermatologist review is completed within 24 hours. For skin lesions the first step in your journey is a comprehensive initial consultation with our Pharmacist Independent Prescriber.
Map My Mole Screening Service
The Map My Mole service is a sophisticated, consultant-led screening tool that provides an extra layer of clinical security for our patients. During this procedure, our practitioner uses a dermatoscope—a high-powered magnifying lens—to capture detailed, subsurface images of the skin's structure that are invisible to the naked eye. These images are then sent to a Consultant Dermatologist for expert analysis. Within a short period, a digital report is generated, confirming whether the lesion is benign and safe for cosmetic removal at Skin Essential Clinic. This service is ideal for individuals seeking peace of mind regarding new or changing moles, ensuring that your aesthetic journey is grounded in specialist dermatological expertise. Cosmetic Lesion Removal with CryoPen™
Cryotherapy is a highly effective solution for imperfections that are often no longer treated by the NHS for cosmetic reasons. This clinical method is designed to manage and remove various benign growths quickly and safely. Common conditions treated at Skin Essential Clinic include:
Skin Tags and Milia
Solar Lentigo and Age Spots
Cherry Angiomas
Warts and Viral Verrucae
-
Once a lesion is cleared for removal, our practitioners utilise the advanced CryoPen™ system, a premium device that emits a fine jet of nitrous oxide under high pressure. The procedure is highly efficient, with the freezing phase typically lasting between 5 and 25 seconds, depending on the size of the area. The technology allows for millimetre precision, targeting the lesion directly without causing collateral damage to the surrounding healthy tissue. By freezing the intercellular fluid, the device induces controlled cell necrosis; the body then naturally processes the tissue, or a crust forms and sheds, revealing healthy skin underneath. This clinical method is designed to manage and remove various benign growths, including skin tags, milia, solar lentigo (age spots), cherry angiomas, and viral verrucae.
-
The procedure itself is efficient, with the freezing phase typically lasting between 5 and 25 seconds. If treating a deeper lesion, a local anaesthetic may be applied to ensure comfort. During the application, you will feel a sensation of intense cold, often described as a temporary stinging or burning. Following the treatment, the area typically turns white and may develop minor swelling or a blister, which is a normal part of the healing response. Over the subsequent days, a scab will form, which eventually falls off to reveal the final result.
-
Do not pick or pull at the scab; allow it to fall off naturally to avoid scarring or infection.
Keep the treated area clean and dry.
Protect the healing skin from UV exposure with a broad-spectrum SPF 50.
If a blister forms, do not pop it, as it acts as a natural sterile dressing for the skin underneath.
-
Is the treatment permanent? Removal is typically permanent for the specific lesion treated, though new lesions may develop elsewhere over time.
Does it hurt? While the sensation is brief, most patients describe a sharp stinging feeling during the "freeze" cycle, which subsides quickly once the pressure is removed.
Will there be a scar? While the CryoPen™ is designed to minimise tissue damage, some minor scarring or pigment change (lightening or darkening) may occur.
How many treatments are needed? Many cosmetic lesions respond to a single session, though deeper viral infections like warts or verrucae may require follow-up appointments.
Practitioner & Safety Note
Every lesion removal at Skin Essential Clinic is subject to a face-to-face consultation with our Pharmacist Independent Prescriber. While cryotherapy is generally very safe, potential risks include temporary blistering, skin discolouration, and, in rare cases, nerve irritation or infection. It is essential to have any changing or suspicious moles screened professionally before seeking cosmetic removal.
